Munich, home of Oktoberfest, plus Bavarian sights, is the perfect base for exploring southern Germany. It is the third-largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg.

Vienna, a powerhouse of art, music and culture, dramatic alpine scenery, plus sweet treats and coffee, is a city not to be missed. Vienna attracts over 7 million visitors a year.

Prague with a rich history is known as the Paris of Eastern Europe, with its maze of cobbled lanes and hidden courtyards. Add Bohemian art, stunning Gothic architecture and you have a world class destination.

Day 1

  • Arrive at Munich airport. Transfer to your hotel.

  • Use the S-Bahn trains between airport and Munich city center.

    • S1 and S8 run every 10 minutes from airport.

Days 2 and 3

  • Munich, Germany - is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls. Its cultural scene is second to none in Germany, with the museums even considered by some to outrank Berlin in quality.

 

Tourist information

  • Marienplatz-is the heart of Munich where pedestrians and street performers gather to enjoy the atmosphere.

    • Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall): Everyone stops to watch the Glockenspiel, as its mechanical figures dine, joust and dance.

      • Performs daily at 11 am & noon, and at 5 pm from March through October.

  • Frauenkirche-is a church and landmark. It is considered a symbol of the Bavarian capital city. 

  • Viktualienmarkt-is a food market and a square. The Viktualienmarkt developed from an original farmers' market to a popular market for gourmets. <Located near the Marienplatz>

  • English Beer Garden-accommodates up to 7,000 people.

    • The food stalls offer traditional beer garden food such as Schweinshaxn (roasted pork knuckle) and  Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick).

    • Getting there: Take U bahn train to Münchner Freiheit station, then it’s a 15-minute walk to the beer garden.

  • Residenz-is the former residence of Bavarian Kings. Highlights include its architecture, Cuvillies theatre, room decorations and treasures displayed from the former royal collections. It is a 10-minute walk north of Marienplatz.

  • Hofbräuhaus-located in the center of Munich and is one of Munich's oldest beer halls. 

  • Dachau Concentration Camp-journey to the notorious site - one of the earliest camps developed after Hitler's rise to power. Explore the barracks, cells and the unimaginable gas chambers.

    • Getting there: Take S2 train to Dachau Bahnhof, then a bus to Dachau Ratiborer Straße. (1 hr. each way)

  • Oktoberfest is the world's largest beer festival and traveling fun fair.

    • Held annually. It is a 2-week folk festival running from mid or late-September to the first weekend in October, with more than six (6) million people attending each year.

Days 5 and 6

Vienna Highlights:

  • Schönbrunn Palace - The former summer residence of the Habsburgs impresses with imperial ceremonial rooms and magnificent gardens. Getting there: U-Bahn 4, Schonbrunn.

  • St. Stephen's Cathedral - the most important religious building in Vienna.

  • Hofburg -is a “must see” palace. It contains a variety of museums such as the Imperial Treasury Vienna, art galleries and prestigious collections.

    • It is the former imperial palace of the Habsburg dynasty rulers (1438 until 1806) and today is the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria.

  • Naschmarkt - Vienna’s well known food market.

  • The Spanish Riding School - The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world which has practiced for more than 450 years. The performances of the horses trained by this famous equestrian school has amazed audiences from all over the world. <Tickets and Events>

  • Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien (Art History Museum)-is one of the world’s finest art museums. <location>

    • Its collection includes over 1.5 million works of art spanning 5,000 years of world culture.

  • Belevedere - is a historic building complex consisting of two Baroque palaces.

Day 7

  • Next stop is Prague, Czech Republic

  • Trains depart from Vienna Hbf (main train station) to Prague. A 4.5 hr. ride.

    • Vienna Hbf station located at Südtiroler Platz station on U1 Line.

  • Arrive at Prague train station. Hlavní nádraží is the main station. It is on the Prague Metro Line C.

    • Hlavní nádraží is a 5-minute walk from Wenceslas Square, the hub street of Prague with access anywhere.

    • A 15-minute walk from Prague's historic old town.

    • A 20-minute walk from the King Charles Bridge. 

    • The Hlavni nadrazi station is a safe place to be, even late at night.

Day 8 and 9

  • Two (2) days exploring the Prague Highlights.

  • For quaint cobbled streets and traditional pubs, head to Old Town.

  • From Old Town Square, don’t miss to visit the decorative Astronomical Clock and the impressive tower at Old Town Hall.

  • Make your way over to the famous Charles Bridge for sweeping views of the Vltava River.

  • Climb the hill to the stunning Prague Castle for more panoramic vistas. The castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and is currently the official office of the President of the Czech Republic.

  • Cruise the Vltava River: Observing Prague from the river Vltava is a unique experience and a different perspective. Cruises within the city are competitively priced and often include lunch or dinner depending on the time of day.

  • Choose a cruise with a duration of two (2) hours or more. This will ensure that you are aboard long enough to escape the hustle and bustle of Prague and allow you to enjoy the serenity of some of the quieter riverbanks on the Vltava River.
