• While Kalaupapa is now a National Historic Site, it is also the home of the few former patients who choose to remain there. So access, is by law is STRICTLY regulated.

  • Unless you are invited by one of the residents, you must take the tour offered by Damien Tours of Kalaupapa (about $60 ). The peninsula can be reached by Air, or by way of the trail descending the 1,600-foot-high (488m) cliffs. Visitors can Hike in and out at no cost or ride one of the Molokai mules, which will add about $125 to the cost. Visitors must be at least 16 years old.

  • Always check if trail is open before heading down. During strong rain storms a muddy trail and landslides can occur resulting in closure until repairs are done. —Alert : as of 12/31/19 the trail is closed due to landslide.

Today, the serene Kalaupapa National Historical Park is a place of preservation and education and is accessible as described. Kalaupapa cannot be reached by car.
